Big boys don't cry?....
...but should they? What do men do when they feel sad or angry or hurt or afraid? Most research suggests that whatever it is that men do, one thing they do NOT do in many cases is seek appropriate professional help. Alarmingly the highest suicide rate in the UK is amongst men aged 45-74 (ONS, 2012). This suggests urgent efforts need to be made to understand what men do with their emotions and why.
To help answer this dilemma, a project is underway at the University of Surrey. The project is seeking men who live in the UK aged between 18-74. To help, men need only complete a short, anonymous, online questionnaire. This should take only about 20 minutes to do. The research has received a favourable opinion from the University of Surrey Ethics Committee. Please click on the "The questionnaire" page on this website to go straight to the questionnaire.
The research forms part of a Doctoral qualification for Richard Scott, a Trainee Clinical Psychologist. Click on "About" on the menu bar above to learn a little more about Richard.
